The Democratic Erosion Consortium is excited to launch our Democratic Erosion Evidence Brief Series to foster discussion on questions that are critical for democracy. Our first workshop centers on misinformation, anchored in our Democratic Erosion Evidence Brief ‘Are Media Literacy Interventions Effective At Countering Misinformation In The Global South?’. The goal of the workshop is to not only disseminate the evidence base for media literacy programming, but to foster thinking and debate about how to incorporate evidence in designing and implementing media literacy interventions.

Prof. Brendan Nyhan will launch the workshop by presenting findings from a systematic review of the most rigorous studies testing the efficacy of media literacy interventions in both the Global North and Global South. Our panelists will then kick-off our discussion by offering their ideas for how we can incorporate the evidence into concrete policy and programmatic practice to improve efforts to combat misinformation in the Global South. Audience members will also be invited to ask questions and share their perspectives and experiences.

We look forward to an engaging discussion about the evidence base around media literacy programs, particularly the features of interventions and their participants that make them most likely to work, while tackling questions about how context matters and how to overcome challenges in incorporating evidence in the design and implementation of media literacy programming.
