Join SPA's Seth Gershenson for a discussion of his book Teacher Diversity and Student Success: Why Representation Matters in the Classroom (recently released by Harvard Education Press), with co-author Constance Lindsay of the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. They will cover the findings of their work, particularly how encouraging diversity in the ranks of classroom teachers may be important policy in closing student achievement gaps and helping schools and school districts achieve equity goals, and emerging research showing the significant, long-lasting impact of same-race teacher exposures, particularly for Black and Latino students.
The discussion will be moderated by Ramon Goings, assistant professor in the University of Maryland - Baltimore County's Language, Literacy & Culture program and a former teacher in the Baltimore City Public School system.
