María Teresa Kumar is the Co-founder and President of Voto Latino, the nation’s largest Latino voter registration and civic engagement organization. Under her leadership for the past 20 years, Voto Latino has registered 2 million voters in key battleground states and now reaches more than 6 million Americans each month through innovative digital campaigns blending technology, culture, and activism. An Emmy-nominated MSNBC analyst and frequent guest host, Kumar serves on the boards of Steve Madden and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations as well as a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. She is also a Senior Fellow at the Charles F. Kettering Foundation. Her leadership has been recognized by major institutions and publications: Fast Company named her one of the 100 Most Creative Minds; TIME honored her as one of thirteen Latinos reshaping industries and the country; Washingtonian included her among DC’s 500 Most Influential People; Bloomberg recognized her among the 100 Most Influential Latinos; and the Carnegie Corporation of New York named her a “Great American Immigrant.” Raised in Sonoma, California, Kumar is a proud first-generation graduate of the University of California, Davis, and Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
