Carter Malkasian will discuss his new book, The American War in Afghanistan: A History, with SPA Assoc. Prof. Tricia Bacon, and detail how his experiences in Afghanistan as a U.S. State Department official in Helmand Province (2009-11) and as a  Sr. Advisor to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford (2015-2019) informed his book. Prior to joining AU, Prof. Bacon served in the U.S. State Department as a Sr. Counterterrorism Analyst for South Asia (2008 -2013), and spent time in region, including Afghanistan.
