You are invited to the Lincoln Scholars Lecture:

"Students: Beware the Super-Ego!"

featuring Mark Edmundson

Date: Thursday, September 28th, 5:30 PM-7:00 PM ET

Location: McDowell Formal Lounge

Why has American culture gotten so polarized and so judgmental? And is it any accident that, as we have gotten more judgmental, we have also gotten more anxious and self-critical? In the 2023 Lincoln Scholars lecture Mark Edmundson of the University of Virginia will use Sigmund Freud and Slavoj Zizek to think about our cultural moment. By understanding the superego, that part of our psyches that judges things, Edmundson asks, can we hope to achieve a healthier way of judging ourselves and others?
